Security guards face various risks in the workplace, and to help protect others, they need to make sure they feel safe too. Here are 7 safety tips for security guards to help them perform at the top of their game.
1. Think ahead
Plan out for the worst case scenarios, and be prepared for them so that you are able to act quickly on your feet.
2. Get to know your environment
Familiarize yourself with all obstructions, stairways, doors, exits and safety hazards. This will help you to act quickly during emergency situations.
3. Avoid faulty equipment
Ensure that all of your equipment is in working order at all times.
4. Check any and all vehicles in your control
Make sure your vehicle is in perfect working condition at all times. Check your vehicle inside and out: check tires, look for fluid leaks and make sure the headlights and brake lights work.
5. Make sure you have all the security accessories you need to support you: CCTV cameras, radios, alarms and working phones. Ensure that these items are always in working order.
